our podcasts
Pyro 2 is only a month away and we are looking forward to a great week of excitement, adventure, community, and learning more about Jesus! The following contains all the last minute information you’ll need to ensure your jr. higher has a great experience at Pyro 2.
WHEN DO WE LEAVE?
Be at Colonial Church by noon on Saturday, August 9th to check in and load the buses. Please begin by dropping your students bags off at the bus trailers in the East parking lot. There will be counselors to direct you. Our departure time will be 1:30pm sharp! Our first meal at camp will be Saturday night supper so make sure your child is well-fed and has not had too much to drink because we will NOT be making any stops on the way up to camp!
SHOULD I TALK TO THE CAMP NURSE BEFORE WE LEAVE?
If your student is on any medications please write out detailed instructions for our camp nurse. All medications must be turned into the nurse and she will distribute them each morning or evening. The camp nurse will be available during check in to receive medications and instructions the day we leave for camp. Please place medications in a labeled plastic bag. Please let us know of any conditions your student may have and the more we know about your student the better we can equip our counselors to meet their needs!
WHEN WILL MY CHILD RETURN?
We will return to Colonial Church on Thursday, August 14th at about 3pm. We will leave Covenant Pines at noon and the ride is approximately three hours. It is difficult to determine the exact time of arrival but it should be within 30 minutes of 3pm. If your camper needs to be picked up at camp earlier in the week then Nicole Lindsay must be informed immediately by email.
WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING?
-Sleeping bag and pillow
-Bible and pen
-Warm clothes, camp clothes, and clothes to get REALLY DIRTY
-Tennis shoes and flip flops
-Swimsuit and towel-one piece swimsuits only (dark tank-top must cover two piece suits)
-Bath towel, wash cloth and beach towel
-Bug spray and sunscreen
-Flashlight
-Personal items- soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste, etc.
-Letter paper and stamps to write home!
-Camera (make sure it is well-labeled)
WHAT SHOULDN’T MY CHILD BRING?
Absolutely no cell phones or gaming systems. iPods are allowed at camp but only for bedtime and bus rides, and appropriate music only please. Absolutely no drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or inappropriate magazines are allowed. If any of these things are found with your student we will confiscate them and your student will be sent home at your expense.
HOW MUCH MONEY SHOULD MY CHILD BRING?
Approximately $40 will cover snack shop goodies, craft projects, water tubing, and other miscellaneous activities. There is a camp store at Covenant Pines where sweatshirts, water bottles, etc. can be purchased. Each student is responsible to keep track of his or her own money.
DRESSING UP FOR CLUB?
In keeping with tradition of Pyro 2, we will dress up for Club each night. This is a night activity filled with singing, skits, videos, talks and more! Students can wear any crazy outfit they own but please remember to use tact when dressing up. There is NO need to go out shopping for silly or crazy clothes, just use what you have to mix and match!
CAN MAIL BE SENT?
One of the most memorable parts of camp for the campers is receiving letters and packages from their parents, friends and relatives. If you mail something please allow two business days for it to arrive. Feel free to send letters, candy, cookies, etc.
You can address your letters or packages with:

OTHER INFORMATION
EARLY PICK UP: We want everyone’s camp experience to be positive. However, if an illness, injury, or behavior problem arises that requires a student to return for the best interests of everyone involved, parents are expected to pick up their own student.
INSURANCE AND LIABILITY: In the event of an accident, the guardian’s insurance is the primary provider for your student. The insurance companies for Covenant Pines and Colonial Church are secondary providers only. Neither Covenant Pines nor Colonial Church insurance policies will cover costs relating to illness. We assume that each family will take the responsibility for the costs of any treatment necessary in the event of an illness. Covenant Pines will bill responsible parties or their families for expense incurred by willful damage to camp property.
AND FINALLY: Please be in prayer for our week together! Pray for safety, encouragement, for the staff and counselors and for the students! We know God will do big things this week and we look forward to sharing pictures and stories with you when we return!
Love in Christ,
